Founded by a Mama Bear

There is little that is more intimidating than a mama bear when her cubs are threatened. This mama bear realized that her children would be threatened in our traditional schooling environments. Regardless of what was being taught — how they were being taught was in direct opposition to how they were created. They are designed to experience, explore, interact, think, discover, “fall down” over and over again until they master skills. City Schoolhouse was created by parents, including this mama bear, for children and families. It was not created by the government, teachers unions, or with a corporate efficiency model in mind. It was designed to serve children and families, sharing with them the gift and joy of life-long learning!

Early Language Resources -- pink, blue, green, what?

The Montessori method of teaching begins teaching language with sand paper letters and sounds. Once a child has mastered their initial letter sounds they then move on to what Montessori refers to as the Pink Blue and Green series of lessons. Teaching in this fashion builds confidence in the child and gets them reading and writing in a developmentally appropriate time frame. Here is an article that explains the elements of the PINK BLUE and GREEN series --- they appear this way in our classroom and children will be promoted to the next series once they have mastered the previous series.

Enjoy -- and try it out at home.
